This error is almost always the case when you have a windows (cp-1254) system and working with linux systems, which by default is utf-8.

In this case if the wsdl have a special character that windows don’t reconize, lauch the error above.

To solve the problem just change the parameters of the JVM that Soap UI use.

this file is located for example in C:\Program Files (x86)\SoapUI-4.6.2\bin\SoapUI-4.6.2.vmoptions

Open the file (for example with notepad ++) and add the RED line for file encoding.

-Xms128m
-Xmx1000m
-Dfile.encoding=UTF-8
-Dsoapui.properties=soapui.properties
-Dsoapui.home=C:\Program Files (x86)\SoapUI-4.6.2/bin
-Dsoapui.ext.libraries=C:\Program Files (x86)\SoapUI-4.6.2/bin/ext
-Dsoapui.ext.listeners=C:\Program Files (x86)\SoapUI-4.6.2/bin/listeners
-Dsoapui.ext.actions=C:\Program Files (x86)\SoapUI-4.6.2/bin/actions
-Dwsi.dir=C:\Program Files (x86)\SoapUI-4.6.2/wsi-test-tools
-Djava.library.path=C:\Program Files (x86)\SoapUI-4.6.2/bin
-Djava.util.Arrays.useLegacyMergeSort=true
-splash:soapui-splash.png
-Djxbrowser.xulrunner.dir=C:\Program Files (x86)\SoapUI-4.6.2\.JxBrowser

Re-start soap ui, and try again to download the wsdl.
